It’s Almost Friday, Innit?

Most of the week, I’ve been hard at work, working on a new Intranet site I’m trying to get finalised for work. I found a template I love. I’ve moved stuff around on the template. I’ve uploaded loads of forms and I’m just checking through it now to see what I’ve got left to do. Then it’s off to my manager and the VP to look over.

I am not the Employee of the Year, but the good news is that our DBA is, and so is one of the clinicians. I did not have to speak in front of 300 people. I did not get $1000 (who knew there was a monetary prize?). It’s all ok.

I missed Ian more than I expected to today. I always do miss him, but for some reason, it was just more today. We try to keep this kind of “what can we sell for a plane ticket” feeling at bay, because, well, we have not won the lottery, and I’ll see him soon, I know. :)

I found another swine flu map. There has been a confirmed case in Omaha; a traveler from California.

As they said on the news this morning, it was bound to happen: “With a pandemic, it’s not a question of ‘if’, it’s a question of ‘when’” some people will get it. I’m not freaked out. It’s times like this that I’m glad to be working in a health care environment. We get daily mail from the Douglas County Health Department with updates and notes from the head of “infection control” at our office.

I’m ready for the weekend, even though I don’t have much planned. While someone is carting all his belongings across town, I am not really sure what I’ll be doing. What will YOU be doing?

You know there’s a problem

when you read your child one of her spelling words and she says, “WHAT??”, not like she didn’t actually HEAR you, but more like she has never heard the word before.

Or, more like she can’t believe she has to spell that word.  AKA… “Where did you find THAT word??”

Me:  “Ummm… your spelling list?!”

This has been the first week in awhile where the words’ meanings weren’t readily apparent, like “legislature”.

Me: “Do you know what a legislature is?”

Her:  “No”

Of course, it didn’t help that spellingcity.com said that “fiction” was a “large division of something”.   “Faction”, I could see.   I suppose “fiction” COULD be a large section in a library… depending on the size of the library.

Ergh

Don’t Wanna/It’ll Be Fine

I’ve been nominated by one of my ornery peers for our company’s “Employee of the Year” award.   I have no idea who it was.   “The alien” (as I’ve begun referring to Ian) keeps saying I deserve to be nominated as much as anyone else does.  I think only someone on psychadelic drugs would nominate me to be employee of the year.   They obviously didn’t see me all stressed out on help desk last week (but oh how quickly working help desk makes the day pass).

The nominees get to have time scheduled for an interview with one of the company VP’s.   I told Ian, “I don’t want to go.  Can I remove my name from the list?   Would that be wrong?   I don’t LIKE to talk about myself!   Waaaaaaa!”

He said, “Just go in there and be yourself.  Tell them you’re a bit nervous.  They’ll understand”

So I did.

It worked out fine.

I don’t know who they’ll pick.

I was nominated last year, too (yes there is more than just one of us working for the company!) and I did get a free box of Wheaties.   They decorated the box to show our faces on it, because typically Wheaties has pictures of people on the box… and because “they could”.
