Yep, my original flight in Detroit was canceled due to maintenance issues, which caused the snowball (no pun intended) effect with the other delays because I was rerouted. I told them the only reason I went through the 2nd airport, which was Denver was because I was sent there after they canceled my original flight which was through Phoenix. Weather in Detroit was perfect that day (it was August after all). So since the original issue was mechanical they gave me the hotel for free. Other people who were delayed by sitting on the tarmac weren't so lucky since their issue was solely the lightning storm.I'm sure it's too late for me to complain now. And too late to use a voucher, since I can't go outside the US anyways now. Kinda wish I'd known they'd do a voucher though… I really could've used it since then. d'oh. Oh well.I hope you ended up having a good time with your parents

Yes I did… We had a lost day with my parents who we went to see before they relocate to Italy. There were no weather delays, but lots of maintenance issues with their planes.They tend not to do too much with weather issues, but the maintenance issues are within their control.You should complain. Get a voucher

wow… you got vouchers for that?!? Sorry to say, but that's nothing compared to what I went through in August!! Long story short, I spent 7 hours waiting in the Detroit airport due to them canceling my flight, only to be rerouted through a different city with a lightning storm which sent us to another airport to sit on the tarmac for 3 hours in a small plane to refuel… just to come back to find that I have now missed TWO connecting flights, and stand in customer service line for an hour and a 1/2, to be sent to ANOTHER counter to get my voucher, to THEN go to a hotel for the night, which I had to fight to get them to pay for.I should really go and complain about MY flight experiences. They'd give me vouchers for a whole year!!!

Oh, and I was by myself the whole time.My first solo flying experience last January was almost as bad.
